Online DBT therapy is a simple and accessible treatment option for those in need of counseling services. To get ready for an online therapy session, you need a device (computer, tablet, or phone) with camera, microphone, and Internet capabilities. You will receive a link for your therapy session, similar to Zoom or Google Meet, click the link, and you’re set! It’s really that easy.
In DBT therapy, you will not only have individual therapy sessions with a DBT therapist, but you will also meet with a DBT skills group. During these group sessions, you will meet virtually with other DBT clients at our practice. The purpose of the skills group is to equip you with tools to manage intense emotions in your daily life. Additionally, sharing this space with other clients can increase your feelings of being supported and decrease your feelings of loneliness.
Along with online individual sessions and online skills groups, you will speak with your DBT therapist throughout the week. This element of DBT, called phone coaching, is another aspect that helps our clients achieve success in treatment. Phone coaching allows clients to contact their DBT therapist when in need of additional support. This may look like calling before or after getting into an argument or checking in before going to a challenging event. Phone coaching is a characteristic of Dialectical Behavior Therapy that really helps you make connections between counseling sessions and everyday life.
